Innovations in Routine Investigations and Surveillance

Routine enteric disease case interviews are critical for surveillance, outbreak detection, and disease control. Typically conducted by telephone, interviews have become more challenging to complete due to increases in reported cases and screening of unknown phone numbers by cases. To address these challenges, the Colorado Integrated Food Safety Center of Excellence (Colorado Food Safety CoE) developed and evaluated innovative approaches to supplement and facilitate enteric disease case investigations, including the use of online surveys and text messaging.

This website includes resources and guidance on the use of online surveys and text messaging to supplement routine enteric disease case investigations.
